If you just want a dirt cheap system, you'll get much better deals from Fatwallet's Hot Deals forum than you will from Fry's and Tiger Direct.

  • Would you contact your father, who went to jail for molesting you as a child, if you found out he was dying?

You could (and will need to) find a better parental figure than him. Biology ain't everything, you know.

Using 47°36' N Latitude and Google Earth to find the appropriate landing point on the Asian continent you appear to arrive on the coast of Sakhalin Island, part of Sakhalin Oblast, a federal subject of Russia. It appears to be a mainly rural area of the curved coast that is NNW of Dolinsk (because of the shape of the lower part of the island).

You can make a claim on the bond itself. If you're the only one making a claim, you can recover the value of the bond (maybe $5,000). Otherwise, you have to chase this guy around with a judgment -- pain in the ass.

  • Recommend an audio system for rent for a weekend event in June?

I'd suggest checking with http://www.sbkaraoke.com/pages/rental.html (see near bottom for pick-up rentals vs deliveries) to see what they have to offer. I get a group of friends together once every couple of months or so to use their karaoke room rental near ReBar; but apparently they also do equipment rental. From what I've read on their website, they rent complete systems including the PA plus computer with karaoke software and music on it. Worth checking them out as one data point of nothing else.

  • I'm moving to seattle in the end of september I wonder if anybody can tell me what places should I go to got to to know the music scene?

What kind of music are you looking to play. We have a pretty diverse music scene so knowing that can help

One thing to check out when you get to town is the vera project. They are a great resource for musicians ( they have a recording studio that you can take classes at and rent for pretty cheap.) It's an all ages focus and also has a venue and a screen print shop for making merch/posters. The staff are amazing and very connected to the scene and range from teens to people who have been in the biz for over 20 years.

  • What have been your worst/best experiences with DJs at live events?

My worst experience as a live DJ as a favor to a friend for her birthday party, was having people come up and ask for song after song from Stevie Wonder's new double lp, "Songs in the Key of Life", and then having others come up and insist that I stop playing Steve Wonder. You couldn't win no matter what you did!

What exactly is this? Does it just tell you when sunrise and sunset occur? If so there are probably a bunch of phone apps out there that are less hassle than a web service ( and how is that a service, it's not like it can actualy change what happens in the sky). In general a bit more info in the question will produce more results on this site. Other wise were just making random guesses

This won't help you for Seattle (sorry) but I recently discovered a FANTASTIC old-fashioned candy store in Portland, called "Sweets" http://www.sweetsetc.com/

Amazing selection, in-house made candy and pre-packaged stuff. Also a great international selection. Plus there's ice cream in the back. So, if you're ever in PDX, check it out.

  • Is there less sodium in food that is home cooked?
    Avatar_default
    Reputation: 239

When you cook at home you control the salt. Also, even if you were to add salt while you eat it is still less than the amount dissolved in most prepared foods, this due to the salt sitting on top.

Some dishes you can make large batches of and freeze ahead. If you do this with enough different meals you don't get so burned out on either cooking or having to eat leftovers of one dish.

Things like chili, soups, some casseroles all freeze well.

As on of the other commenters said, as your palate adjusts to less salt in your cooking you won't need to add as much salt. My partner doesn't like a lot of salt and I've gotten used to cooking with a lot less and I don't mind the difference. When I cook for my mother she thinks I haven't seasoned my food enough though -- but then she lives with my dad who loves salt.

  • Some good post-apocalyptic reads?

Ah, one of my favorite topics. Right up there with mad scientists and new hummus recipes. Here are a few classics that should be in the library of anyone with a healthy appetite for the end of civilization as we know it.

Lucifer's Hammer by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle 1985. Earth gets slapped silly by a rogue comet, and a cast of characters try to survive the ensuing pandemonium. This book contains a satisfying mixture of scientific conjecture and character driven plotlines. I've read it at least twice. Alas Babylon by Pat Frank, 1958. Cold-war era novel about thermonuclear war and the aftermath in rural Florida. Character-driven, this is considered to be a classic. However, if you want a novel with scientific exposition or exotic twists, you'll need to look elsewhere. The Stand by Stephen King, 1978. An enormous book, not just in terms of page count but also in the number of characters, epic scope, and multi-leveled exposition. Many consider it to be King's best book. Day of the Triffids by John Wyndham in 1951. Another Cold War era apocalypse, this one about mutant walking plants that have nearly munched human civilization out of existence. A classic.

    Happy reading.

A daily serving of sodium is equal to 1 teaspoon. If you cook everything from scratch, you can control the salt content and it is for the most part lower in sodium because you can control the amount of salt you use. Processed sauces like pasta or cheese sauce will usually have larger amounts of sodium than if you make it at home but it really does vary from brand to brand. The best option is to check the labels but for example Classico brand pasta sauce has 480mg of sodium per serving and dried pasta usually contains very little like 5mg or so. This would total to 485 mg per serving which is lower than most processed foods but it isn't always the case.

Most any kind of processed food has loads of sodium in it, especially the instant-type meals you're talking about. Sodium acts as not only a flavor enhancer but also a preservative. So to make food that has had all the natural flavor processed out of it palatable and extend shelf life, it needs ridiculous amounts of salt. This is where Americans get most the massive excess of sodium in their diets that you hear about.

Now food that is more-or-less home cooked is going to have a far lower sodium content because it's only going to have the salt that you add to it. Using your example of spaghetti: the noodles will have a pretty low sodium content and the jar of sauce you buy will be higher, depending of what type , but probably not in the range of an instant meal (unless you get a jarred alfredo, that shit is crazy salty). The jarred sauce is obviously processed but much less so than a Lean Cuisine. If you were to make your own sauce from canned tomatoes, onions, garlic, herbs, ect., you'd not only have a far superior tasting meal, but also a much healthier one. I'm not going to go on a rant about how great learning to cook is - you get the point.

On sodium and health: If you're a basically healthy person eating large amounts of sodium isn't necessarily the worst thing in the world for you. Your kidneys do a fine job of regulating sodium and fluid content in your body and you should be able to deal with salty meals just fine. OTOH if you have issues with your health, namely high blood pressure, kidney problems, excess weight, etc., you'd be much better off without the high sodium food. I'd also recommend a lower salt intake so your palate isn't blown out by salt. If you're eating high sodium foods all the time, "real" food isn't going to taste salty enough for you. Once your palate is adjusted away from the processed stuff, you'll find that it really does taste like shit and you'll wonder how you choked it down!

Raid the women's department, mate; that's wot I do.YOu don't have to be a crossdresser to enjoy things like Halter necks, backless tops and leggings. Let's face it; men's fashion IS rather conservative and restricted. Does nothing to capture that "sexy and sassy" aesthetic that I'm trying to capture. It's about time we boys started our own "flapper" movement: Fashion freedom for men, Liberation of the male body from the tyranny of stiff Puritannical suited-up Victorian dress codes, VIVA LA REVOLUTION!

I'll leave it to others who know the specific neighborhoods you mention better than I to offer tips on specific establishments. I want to offer this general tip: Sports Bars are great for the single patron. Head into any sports bar for a pint during a game and you'll make fast friends. When I'm on the road and don't have anybody to hang out with, I always head for a sports bar. I've made fast friends in sports bars watching the Seahawks play in Boise, the Senators in Ottawa and the Patriots in Providence. By virtue of being fans, you have something in common with the person next to you, and therefore, something to talk about.

The best selection of fancy, quality chocolates that I've found locally is at the Chocolate Box http://www.sschocolatebox.com/ on Pine, near First Avenue. They have all kinds of truffles, molded chocolates, exotic flavors, and boxed assortments from a lot of different chocolatiers. If you want to put together a knock-out give of pretty, really high-quality chocolates, this is the place to go.

  • What brand of jeans have a Britain flag?
    Qlandav2ex_small
    Reputation: 4209

Interesting question that got me searching.

Well it turns out that it is a fairly common design to include in jeans.
When you are searching you may want to use the search term "union jack" as that is one of the common terms for the red/white cross design that makes up the venerable flag of the UK.

I found mention for Twiggy LONDON jeans, Union Jack Jeans, and some designs by Tooche Halcyon (see:
    http://www.telegaleria.com/p-1964-slim-and-lift-jeans-with-union-jack-leather-pocket-tooche-w6506.aspx )

The inclusion of that design on pockets has been across different brands as mentioned in this Slate.com article about jeans design from 2005 tilted "The Secret Language of Jeans":
    http://www.slate.com/articles/arts/fashion/2005/11/the_secret_language_of_jeans.html

Sorry, but no definitive answer here. You gotta stop someone wearing them and ask where they got those jeans.

  • How to ride public busses from Seattle to Portland?

I thought I might update this answer in case someone has the same question: there is a new (as of 5-2012) service called the Bolt Bus. Tickets vary, but are cheaper than greyhound or Amtrack. Some of their tickets only cost $1. I got two round trip tickets for 2 for $40 for MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND! They also have a great loyalty program, 8 trips (each way) = 1 trip free! I'd definitely check it out!

Rite Aid, while not a candy store, has the best selection of candy of all the common stores.

The Almond Roca (because I love Almond Roca) factory in Tacoma is pretty cool, because they sell rejects by the pound, and the rejects are simply, slightly misshapen...they taste just as delicious, and cost a fraction of the price of what you would pay at the store.

Beyond that, I know of no Wonka-like candy wonderland in the general area.
