Where are the best french fries in Seattle?

The other day, I went to Spud Fish & Chips in Green Lake. The fish was good, but the chips were another matter entirely. This led me to the question above. I have a few criteria for what makes a good french fry: crispiness (above all else), volume, and freshness (i.e., not frozen, although depending on how hungry I am, this is not a deal-breaker). Extra points go to fries that taste like more than just potatoes and salt, especially if additional condiments (and/or alcohol) are not needed to enjoy them.

I love the fries at Honey Hole. In my opinion, they meet all your criteria, with the added bonus of coming with delicious sandwiches.

Schultzy's in the U-district has amazing fries. It has ruined me for standard restaurant fries forever.

Feierabend's fries are killer, especially with curry ketchup.

Also, the sweet potato fries at Pies and Pints are awesome.

This is a great question! Some of the best fries are spread out all over town:

My favorite fries are the truffle fries at 22 Doors. Crispy, skinny, and salty fries... they are also really good plain!

Next, the fries at Eliot Bay Brewery in West Seattle are remarkable and they will hook you up with chipotle aioli that you will quickly find you cannot live without.

The fries at the George and Dragon Pub hit the spot, too. They are a bit on the greasy side but still have the delicious, delicious skins.

If someone ever forces you to eat at Six Arms, order the fries (and a hard cider) to hold you over. The fries pretty much rock. Check to make sure the plate is clean under the wax paper when it comes out, though. Just sayin' it probably won't be. :-(

If you like sweet potato fries, then I have to send you to Roro's BBQ on Stone Way. That little place is amazing!

Yeah, you read that right. Fried in duck fat.

Check out the fries at Baguette Box sometime (in Fremont or Cap Hill). Their regular peanut oil fries are $2.80 and the truffle fries are $4.80. I can't say they are the best in Seattle, but they are a good break from some of the other fries around here.

Flowers on the UW-Ave can have good ones. Linda's can be a bit greasy but have a great after taste. The ones I can remember that are extremely good are up in Wedgewood Ale House, which also has the best Bacon Cheeseburger!

Jolly Roger Taproom. You can check out the new digs, eat awesome French Fries, but don't forget the onion rings as well (certainly the best in the city!)

I had the fries at Pike Street Fish Fry the first time at Slog Happy a couple weeks ago. They were pretty amazing! Not as crispy as I usually prefer, but the flavor was great and the texture wasn't bad (not soggy). The tartar sauce they served on the side was equally delicious.

Bonus: They give 'em away for free every third Friday of the month from 5-7 pm.

This doesn't meet half your criteria, but there is just something about the bottomless Red Robin steak fries that keep me coming back. Probably more to do with the fact that I've been eating them since I was a kid.

Cafe Campagne at brunch. They have that whole fancy-sounding ouefs en meurette thing going on, but the basket of fries that comes with it is so astoundingly good on its own (even without dipping in the gooey, eggy, wino goodness that it comes with), I don't even notice when I forget to order a mimosa for my hangover.

my favorite Seattle fries are from the Redwood! you gotta get the spicey sweet potato fries that come with a side of the famous redwood sauce which seems to be sour cream (or something very close) and tapatio. it's just devine. if you like spicey and slightly sweet, these fries are for you.

Seattle Fish Co. next to Nuemo's. They are so great and they have an option of some great sauces, including CURRY KETCHUP. Whenever I'm wasted and I'm hungry, it's always debate to get a hotdog or fries.

Mostly, I choose fries, especially these fries FROM SEATTLE FISH Co.. SO GOOD.

Can you tell my enthusiasm for these fries? I hope so.

Definitely our current fav is fries at The Hudson (Georgetown, Hudson & E. Marginal). Crispy, fresh, and salty. Good on their own and/or w/ ketchup or aioli.

Cafe Campagne and Skillet mobile food trailer make similarly good fries IMO. Both a bit greasy but still retain some crispness. I know Skillet uses peanut oil (a must!).

Oddfellows has yummy fries, plus they're served standing up in a tin can, for that Great Depression-era hobo feel. But in a good way.

Don't know if they're necessarily the best, but the fries at Owl 'N Thistle were fucking fantastic when I had them last weekend (tartar sauce was pretty amazing too). It should be noted though that I was *very* drunk when I had them.

For good, basic french fries, it's hard to beat the golden spears of potatoey goodness served up at Dome Burger on Occidental off of Pioneer Square. They also have some of the best burgers in town -- their bacon double cheeseburger is heaven in a basket.

Boka Restaurant (Hotel 1000, between Seneca and Spring downtown). They are skinny and crispy, not oily. They're flavored with truffle oil, truffle salt, and a bit of parsley. Bonus: they're served in a belgian-style cone, and during happy hour they're only $3. http://bokaseattle.com/happyhour.html

Honey Hole! Crispy outside, fluffy inside and great flavor. Now I have to change my dinner plans.

Outside Seattle the Gyro Express in Downtown Bellevue has some of the finest fries i've ever tasted.

You could make your own, too. Use Russet potatoes, get some garlic salt, onion salt, paprika, and regular salt, a teaspoon each. And a cup of flour.

Cut up the potatoes into fries, let them sit in cold water so they don't brown while you prepare everything else. Heat a cup of vegetable oil in a big skillet on medium-high. While the oil heats up, sift the seasonings and the flour together in a big bowl and gradually add water until you can drizzle the batter from a spoon.

Then one at a time, dip the fries into the batter and then place them apart from each other in the skillet. Fry until golden brown and let them sit on a paper towel before you chow down.

Mmm. They should turn out crispy and delicious, plus food always tastes better when you make it yourself.
