Planning a road trip for August, and we're in need of a stellar mission to complete along the way.

Themes so far include imbibing dark beer and swimming in bodies of water, and possibly french fries in diners. But we need a name, a mission, a sense of purpose...destination: Boulder.

you could do a National Parks cruise, hitting Yellow Stone and and then Rocky Mountain National Park.

perhaps even Glacier if it isn't too far out of the way.

Oh, I know. Your mission and sense of purpose should be to secretly aid a family with 2 small children, 1 dog, and not a lot of money with various random acts of kindness during their own road-trip to Boulder - pre-paying their camping spots, leaving bottles of whiskey outside their tent, dropping encouraging notes along the way, etc. You could like, ADOPT this family on their own road-trip, in a financially helpful yet non-obtrusive sort of way. That would be really cute.

This family drives a gold Toyota mini-van, just to give you a heads-up.

You could definitely stop at the Idaho border just north of I-90 for a special mission of visiting an amusement park with some of the best waterslides and roller coasters in the NW.

    (I'm a coaster junkie, so I can't pass by.)

stop at all the roadside attractions and pick up souvenirs at each one, then give them to your favorite strangers along the way.

Ever GeoCache? It can be ideal for a missionless mission monger:

Otherwise, parks and roadside attractions are a great idea...

you could also follow certain pioneer trails to boulder...

Or hop from old First Nation site to First Nation site (the Arapohoe used to winter in Boulder, and you could pass right thru the old Nez Perce territory on the way there)....
Or a ghost town tour (plenty of those on the way there: some of which have be re-constituted as tourist towns)...

Or see how close you could get to Lewis & Clark's path (and then cut south to CO)...?

    Don't forget to visit 1619 Pine St: Mork & Mindy's house. :)
