Do you think being able to comment on questions would be too passive aggressive?

I want to comment on http://questionland.thestranger.com/questions/10589-which-seattle-salons-are-donating-hair-for-oil-spill-booms and say "Huh, that is interesting, here's a thumbs up" which seems like a good feature in general but then again a lot of passive aggressive bullshit possibilities open up if you can comment on the questions themselves.

I've advocated for non-votable follow-up questions or comments on the original question since the beginning of QL. The Stack Overflow platform allows for it and I think it works well. I find that the answers section is heavily abused by people asking follow up questions, or just writing comments without actually answering the question. It clutters the answers section and attracts frivolous downvotes. The answers section should be for genuine attempts at answering the question, and personally I think non-answers or follow-up questions placed there should be deleted by moderators on sight.

The problem would also be mitigated if we could just edit our posts indefinitely.

Well I think it's gross. All that human hair in bags or barrels or something? Imagine the smell. Maybe it's necessary and I can respect that but still. It's gross.

For some reason, l'm having trouble understanding this question at all. Why would it be passive aggressive to comment on a forum where commenting (and voting) is both allowed and encouraged?

I would encourage you to post whatever you want in reply to someone's question. If you felt it was a interesting question, you aren't doing anyone any harm by sharing that. This is not a strict arena, and for my part I appreciate the off-topic conversations and debates.

If people start posting passive aggressive comments then those people will be dealt with by the community and reporting. Posting positive, but off-topic, comments is a not a slippery slope to passive-aggressiveness or trolling.

Why not just give the question a thumbs-up? Isn't a that essentially saying "Huh, that is interesting, here's a thumbs up?" Or would you prefer to have your name attached to the action?
