How do I turn local "fame" into a steady touring schedule and stable career?

Good day to you, my name is Phat Man Dee and I am a jazz vocalist and composer. I live in Pittsburgh, PA. I am well known and have alot of wonderful fans. I am blessed to play with great musicians. We have original material, two great cd's and good attitudes. I would like to find an agent and a manager and then sing to as many people around the world for the forseeable future.  I have good local press, some good national attention for my work in San Francisco and I play NYC as often as I can, though that town never ever pays...... so I don't like to annoy people by telling them to look at me, but look at me! What should I do?

Thanks for your time and consideration.

This is a tough one. Look…if it was easy, everyone would do it. It sounds like you have some things happening in Pittsburgh and that is a good start. Rather than trying to conquer the whole world, how about trying to expand your local popularity to surrounding cities like Cleveland, Columbus, Buffalo, etc? Try to build a fan base there and once you’ve had some success, and then expand the circle out from there. You’re never going to make money when you are trying to break in new territories. Just the way that it is. You have to invest the time and try to be smart about what you are doing. Go play SF or NYC but only if you can set up a show that makes sense or view going out there more like a vacation rather than just work. You may feel better about the outcomes then.

    Good Luck-

    Ben
