What's the best way to ship wine to CA & IN

I lost a couple bets and need to ship multiple bottles of wine to California and Indiana. What's the best way to ship wine, do I need to declare anything, and any probs shipping to those states?

Individuals can't ship wine, labeled as such. Your local wine shop should be able to though. I've used Vino Verite for that job before. They're very helpful and they don't charge a lot to do it.

When the Supreme Court ruled on state to state wine shipments, everything got more complicated. For our shop to ship wine legally, we would have to buy a permit from each state we would ship it to.

Shops that typically ship wine are probably set up to do this. Wineries also are usually set up to do this.

Another strategy for you is to call a wine shop near where your friends live and buy the wine from them. Shops in the neighborhood will often deliver for free, or at least hold the wine for your friends to come pick up.

To add to what MtBakerDave said, you shouldn't have any problems shipping to California (someone over 21 may need to sign for it) but you may have difficulties shipping to Indiana. Indiana laws are ambiguous enough that some shippers do not want to take the risk. The wine shop doing the shipping may have ideas for possible options, like shipping to a wine shop where your friend can pick it up.
