Depending on my energy level: Break out the books I loved when I was a kid (C.S. Lewis, Laura Ingalls Wilder, etc.) and read for a while; Get out my beading stuff and make something new (learning a new weaving stitch is particularly effective); Charge the ipod and go for a walk down the Cowen park trail; Eat a good meal-- fresh veggies, smoked salmon, bakery bread; Call my sister and ask to talk to my niece (she's about to turn three), who always cheers me up immeasurably. When I am sad going out in the rain is often the best cure for me, but if I can't get that I will sit in the tub and let the shower pound on me for a while.

A walk generally helps me more than anything. I find that if I try to distract myself with things on the computer, I end up on some political blog pissing myself off even more. Even in bad weather, getting out in the daylight helps.

    Avoid retail therapy!

Singing usually does the trick for me. It releases mood-lifting endorphins that I feel right away. I love to sing along with good tunes while taking a long, hot shower.

I blast motown, or some music of that ilk, whatever is loud and brassy and full of emotion. I scrub the hell out of the house; in particular anything that needs elbow grease like the tub, the kitchen floor or windows.

Then I meet up with a friend or two at my local dive bar.

If I'm at home, I start doing things. Being productive. Gardening works best, as I'm out in the sun, doing something I love and making my house look better. Sometimes I get to chat with a neighbor and check out what they're doing in their yard. Cooking and house projects are a close second and third. Even cleaning works, sometimes.

No matter what you decide to do, do it right. This is the time to listen when you think of something nice to do for yourself. If, on the way out to the garden, it strikes you that having a margarita on hand while gardening sounds great, do it. make the afternoon an exercise in indulging yourself. Be nice to you, keep busy and avoid isolation.

I make a list of all the shit that I have been putting off, or has been hanging over my head, and then I do all those things. Often, the little things just pile up more and more, and once I clear away a lot of the little shit, I feel a great sense of accomplishment and I feel like I can breath easier.

1 glass of wine + mellow music or a good book usually does the trick for me!

I decide to be in a good mood and then be in a good mood. Or just watch Lloyd Dobbler talk about it in Say Anything. Or listen to the Mountain Goats (it doesn't seem like it should help but it does). Or watch Sports Night.

I watch old malt liquor and monster truck exhibition commercials on youtube, or I learn some hilariously wretched song on the ukulele.

I kind of fall into the bad mood for awhile and make myself miserable, wallowing in it all, and then I turn to music. I usually play one really comforting and calming song on repeat for awhile (Hypnotized by Ani Difranco for me currently) as a kind of meditation while I lay in bed hugging my pillows. If I had a bathtub I would soak in it for a few hours. Eventually listening to the song over and over again pulls me out of my coma and I get up and check my email or something on the computer. I might watch some cute kitten videos or something. I might also call my BFF and bitch about what I'm upset about, but maybe not. I distract myself with internet stuff or by listening to a music mix. Sometimes I take dumb pictures of my sad face with my computer which usually leads me into taking silly face pictures. I pet my cats and check their food bowls or let them in and outside. I try to stay away from people. If there is a Starbucks open I like to get a frappaccino. If everything else fails, I just put on some music and go to sleep. When I wake up I usually feel better as long as I am taking my anti-depressants and other meds regularly.

Get outdoors, even if it's raining. A brisk hike in the woods at Seward Park usually does it for me if I don't have time to get out in the mountains. And I never thought I'd say this, but gardening has really done wonders for my happiness level (although it took a while to get a plot in the pea-patch) and now I'm one of those gardening nerds. If none of that works (though it always does), a yoga class can be a great mood-alterer. And there's always wine.:)

Some form of self-medication usually does the trick. Or yard work.

Usually this happens when I'm home so I play PC games. Yes computer games makes me mellow and somehow let go of any anger.

If I'm driving then maybe listened to music I like.

If I'm out and not driving then I go shopping :0

I dance in my living room. Depending on the level of bad mood, sometimes on the coffee table in my underwear.

Being at my age of 77yrs and no serious health problems, now is the time to write my list of certain things to give to any of my family now. For me it gives me less stress and I am a firm believer of not giving them problems when I am gone and they have to put up with all! What ever each one of them gave me gifts then they get it back and do what they want with them. I have been putting pictures in photo books for each one that I know they would like. I will have no money to leave for them but I have lots of love which means the most to them. So this I know and when the time comes I will be in peace.

I run. I hate running, but I run. If I can't run, I find someone to have sex with. And if I can't have sex, I go to bed, pull the covers over my head, and hope that it goes away by tomorrow.
