Honestly, right now the friends I spend by far the most time with all live in my building and we met at events or parties thrown by other residents.

Proximity lends convenience, so we can have morning coffee or go to the gym/yoga together or have a drink nearby on a moment's notice. And spending time together in and around your home does make you closer. They are all great people, but my best friend in the world lives several states away and I see her pretty infrequently.

    1- My boyfriend's friends and their spouses/partners.
(Great guys hang with other great guys, I guess.)

2- People I work with or used to work with.

3- People I go to school with or used to go to school with.

For some strange territorial reason, I often don't get along with my closest female friends other female friends. I'll have to examine that.

Nearly everyone I hang out with (beyond Mr. Griffin) I met by playing in the same orchestras. Yes, that makes me a music geek, and no, I don't care.

Either at my vocation or my avocation - in other words, I met most of them either at work or while acting.

Shared interests. I met most of my closest friends through shared crafting interests. Honestly, I found them through their blogs, stalked them socially, and worked hard to build friendships over the span of a few years. Now they are like family.

I met my BFF through her boyfriend, who used to be a good friend, though five years later we have both broken up with him.

My best man-friend I used to date and we met through my roommate at the time.

A lot of other people I met through work or school, depending on how long I've known them.

Pretty much my best friend was someone I met when I was 17 or 18 years old. My boyfriend at the time was friends with her boyfriend and we ended up hanging out a lot and becoming life long friends.
Another friend or two were my neighbors and lived next door while I was renting a house in Crown Hill/Ballard in my early twenties.
Another became close to me based on that we both have kids with the same father whom we both dated.
An old boyfriend that I stuck to like glue after we broke up 10 years ago who i met through mutual friends 5 years before that is probably my closest friend (I guess)
My oldest friend that I still talk with occasionally I met through 4H when i was 7 or 9 years old.
Friends of friends, school mates maybe, roommates, people in my sphere with common interest and maybe some shared ideas and outlooks on life. Witnesses to my life people that I have been spanning time with me in some way or another for many years.

2 of my best friends I met in high school, one in jr high, another since kindergarten. I met my boyfriend of 6 years though myspace of all places in one of their philosophy group forums. My other good friends I met writing graffiti, through the hiphop scene, or from a mutual pot hook up that my group of buddies and I all stayed with back in the 90s. I am not that close with many people from work.

My two best friends (also my roommates) I met on the swim team at school. Most of the other people I hang out with I actually met through a guy I dated for a while. I sometimes feel a little weird that I spend more time with some of these people than he does.
