Recycling garden plant containers?

Can I recycle the the black plastic containers and white plastic labels (the things that say the plant name and info) that my plants come in from the nursery. If not, what should I do with them?

In Seattle, you can recycle plastic plant pot containers, so long as they are empty and clean. Take the labels off them first.

Brett and Tom have it covered. For Seattle, find answers at

I like to re-use the black plastic containers to start seeds before I transplant them. I keep a stack of them with the rest of my gardening stuff so I'm always ready to go.

If you are outside the City of Seattle, our King County "What Do I Do With...? website (http://your.kingcounty.gov/solidwaste/wdidw) lists nurseries and other places that will accept clean used plant pots. Click on "Plastic," then "Plastic nursery pots."

For the plant labels, I usually keep them to remind myself what the heck I planted, but if you don't need them they should go in the garbage.
