Why don't apartment buildings in Seattle get yard waste bins?

I realize that most apartment-dwellers don't have yards, but that doesn't mean we don't have things that could go in a yard waste bin. I'm constantly throwing things away in my apartment that I would be putting into the yard waste if I lived in a house. Does the city offer yard waste bins for apartment buildings? If not, why? If so, why aren't more apartment buildings using them?

Seattle offers food and yard waste collection to apartments and condos.

Send your property manager this link-

Hundreds of Seattle apartment buildings are collecting their food waste for compost, instead of sending it to the landfill.

Many more will be subscribing to the service soon, especially when tenants, like you, ask them for this disposal option.

Absolutely! Yard waste carts have been available for years to apartment buildings in Seattle. Now apartment and condo buildings can also put all food into their yard waste carts. In addition, dedicated food waste carts are available if there is no or little yard materials. You can choose from a variety of cart sizes and service options to fit your budget. In addition, the City provides a onetime $100 credit on the garbage bill for a Friend of Recycling and Composting (FORC) steward signup. The property must have food waste collection. Call 206-684-7665 for information on food/yard waste signup and FORCs. Information will go up on the SPU website soon.
