How is Gay linked to Fabulous?

Looking at the Liberace pic on slog got me wondering. The Fabulous gays are the most visible subset by virtue of their Fabulosity.
But it is a subset...isn't it?
Where does the dressing up in drag or otherwise come from?
It seems like more than just a cultural legacy and even if it were how did the gay manifest this way?

Gays have something called Midichlorians in their blood. They are microscopic symbiont life forms that give gays the power of "The Fabulous"

Sequins are the ultimate manifestation of this amazing power.

Check out the history of theatre and performing arts in gneral in America and, especially, abroad. Men often played the female part and Opera had a tradition of using castrati as the soprano.

Naturally, it's a helluvalot more complex then that, but there you go for a start.

Well, how we got so fabulous is a long story, but how all gays are linked to our more fabulous brethren is easy. Think about it, you meet a big group gay people, who are you going to remember and forever associate with gay people? The fabulous 7-foot drag queen dressed as Cher, or the guy like me, who pretty much looks and acts exactly like every Tom, Dick and Harry.

    Theatre.

theatre allows/allowed costuming, masks, and the loving/kissing of taboo lovers in public. It also offers ample dark spaces backstage for trysts. (See: shakespeare's troupe) ...Everything a violently closeted populace needed.

    Still is.

wow! the origins of drag? that's a heavy one. i, myself, have oddly never done drag. but the best answer is probably the most bullshit sounding one: it's pretty metaphysical. we gays are what we are, we do what we do, there are certain ways we develop in response to certain environments and situations, certain things we are more likely to explore and enjoy. and it is one part of our weird little culture that straight guys aren't busting down the door to appropriate. and drag is evolving! right in front of our eyes! it's a fun ride...
