What the F does "masculine" mean in M4M dating profiles?

After entering the sometime creep-filled world of online dating, I keep finding profiles looking for "masculine" guys. What the fuck does that mean? Are they looking for macho, chest-thumping former jocks (or former HS theater fags that edited their history) or gay guys comfortable in their own skin who aren't putting on the 'Hey, Gurl!' persona?

It just means "not effeminate" just like HWP really just means "not fat" (and 29 really means 37)

    "No twinks."

not femme. No drag, no fairies, no lisp, no pink walk-in closet with it's own Ken doll wardrobe.

Yes, lumberjacks and jocks might be their thing, and it could in some cases/contexts be code for Bears, but more likely it's regular joes and gap boys that might be 'somewhat over the rainbow'.

But most likely, they're presuming a dichotomy, and mean "no femmes need apply".

That word is perhaps mildly annoying... but not as bad as "straight acting." Way, way back when I was entering all of the Stranger Personals by hand—wearing my fingers to little bloody stumps—I routinely deleted and/or edited ads that included "straight acting" in 'em.

All people mean by masculine, I think, is that they'd prefer to be with a guy who's not too... flamboyant. And they're defining "masculine" as a straight-male-only trait, so... it doesn't exercise me too much.
