could riottt be coming back?

i hear that riotttt - new, hashed out and updated - could be arriving back on the scene again. kathleen hanna's personal zines are in permanent collection at nyu and handfuls of the post riot folks i know have finished degrees focussing on validating riottt-y worlds in professional spaces. on top of that, i'm seeing post riot ppl coming together and engaging their years plus of combative analyis and personal media production with increased capital and social access to get things done.
i missed riottt grrrl - now girl, woman, man, boi, ** - the first time. is it coming again? what should i look out for?

I don't know if riot grrls are coming back (I hope so!), but I'm pretty sure getting your moment in time encapsulated in NYU's archives and validated with MA theses is more likely a sign that the whole thing is dead at this point

i don't know if i'd be chomping at the bit for riot grrrl to come back, but music today DOES need a kick in the ass. if it has to come from girls who feel oppressed at rock shows, then so be it. be on the look out for the youth of this state/nation/world to be fed up with music and how weak and passionless it is now. the kids need to be in control of the music again. that's what was so great about the world-changing music of the late 80's and early 90's... the KIDS who loved to rock were finally in charge!

I think it depends on what you mean by "coming back."

90s nostalgia is at a high; grunge is back in fashion... so it's only inevitable that Riot Grrrl is going to get trotted out and re-hashed in some form or another. Rumors of a Bikini Kill reunion surface every six months or so, then peter out. The Need has some CONFIRMED reunion shows, which is really exciting. Ladyfest is celebrating its ten year anniversary. There are books coming out.

But the most important thing to remember about Riot Grrrl is that it was always a populist movement; teenage girls started chapters that held meetings in their bedrooms... zines spread from hand-to-hand without benefit of the internet, disillusioned punk girls started bands despite myriad obstacles...

I guess what I'm saying is, if you want Riot Grrrl to come back, MAKE it come back!
