I'm pretty sure my 10 week old kitten just ingested a push pin... is there anything I can immediately do?? I can't afford a vet right now.

I tried getting it out of her mouth, but I'm pretty sure she ingested it. She didn't choke or show any signs or struggling (if she did in fact ingest it). What can I do?? Any suggestions much appreciated. Is it possible she can pass it? Thanks.

    Good advice from all. USe a credit card and save the kitten's life is my fav.

    BUT if you're hellbent on not paying for a vet, but want to give kitty a fighting chance, feed her. Something NOT cornbased - ask the pet food stores what they give kitties who are constipated and buy that. i.e. help her pass it quickly and without strain.

    This very thing just happened to me and my 5 month old puppy, he got into my pin cushion. I pulled 2 pins out of his mouth and hoped he didn't have time to swallow any.
    over the next two days I checked his stool, and sure enough he passed one.
    At this point I panicked and took him into the vet that day to make sure there were not any more. I kept imagining that there was one just stuck in his digestive track.
    She took an xray (about 150 bucks) and found that there were no more pins, but there were 2 rocks in his belly (silly pup).

    Moral of the story is that when I brought him in the vet didn’t seem too worried, she said dogs can pretty much pass anything, but we did the xray any way to make sure.
    Obviously a dog and a cat are different.

    What I would do if I were unable to pay the bill is wait a day or so, watch the kitten to see how s/he is feeling. Make sure its still eating and drinking, see if its still playful, and check its poo everyday.
    If you get any warning signs, or if no pin comes out take it in right away... use a credit card, its worth it.

    Call the vet and see what they say. Ask them what to do short of surgery.

    If you don't have the pin in your hand, then it's in your cat. Unfortunately, it's probably stuck in her digestive tract. Kittens that small have very small innards and it's doubtful that something the size of a push pin would make it through without doing a lot of excruciatingly painful damage to her on its way.

    A vet could do an x-ray to find the object and see where it is for not too much cash--you may be extremely lucky and your kitty has passed the pin. If not, though, removing things from innards is a surgical fix.

    If you can't afford vet surgery and your kitten does have a pin in her gut, you could try waiting it out and vigilantly checking the litter to make sure it's out. But if your cat starts vomiting, having diarrhea, has a painful or swollen abdomen, or exhibits trouble breathing, and still no pin in the poo, you'll have to have her put to sleep.

    You could maybe try taking her to the humane society to see if they can help you for a lower fee. I'm sorry.
