Do you have a good recipe for veggie burgers?

I recently tried to make veggie burger patties but they didn't keep their form well. Has anyone made their own that didn't fall apart or turn into more of a dip when heated up?

I recently perfected an excellent black bean burger recipe. These tricks may be transferable to veggie burgers as well. I use a can of black beans, finely chopped garlic and onion, and a lot of different spices (chili powder, cumin, salt, pepper, hot sauce, or whatever else is lying around that looks good.

In order to make it stay together I add at least a half cup of flower and a half cup of bread crumbs and one Egg-replacer (if you’re not vegan, try throwing a real egg in there). The trick is to turn your bean, or veggie mixture into something that resembles cookie dough. It also helps to let it set up in the refrigerator or freezer for a while. Hopefully that helps.

Check out Mark Bittman's How to Cook Everything Vegetarian from the library. There's a whole section on how to construct a good veggie burger, kind of a "select one from each column" method, so you can choose whichever protein+veggie+binder you're in the mood for. And of course it also has a few recipes for some good combos.
