Dear 'covert' social-media marketing asshats: Do you really think we can't tell?

Painting the picture:
A post is put up by a complete Qland newb. A leading salespitchy question like "Hey where's the best place for single guys to meet single girls online?". Another complete newb/registered-that-day "qlander" posts an answer full of soundbitery and fearmonger verbs, and answers with one, and only one place, and readily provides a link to it at, say, "www.BesthookupwithSingleChicks.com". Neither person ever posts again.

WTF people. Please don't use Qland as your lame way to be a cheapass advertiser. There's a place, other than the 6th layer of hell, for that and it's called Craigslist.
Using our lovely little trivia game / fountain of info for your miserly asshabberdashery? That's low, stupid, trashy and tempts me to release my army of feces-throwing flying monkeys at your personal abode.
What do you have to say for yourselves?

(or, am I the only one reading this into certain posts?)

I've thought it of a few posts, but most of the ones that don't get flagged are pretty clever about hiding it inside actual questions.

That question awhile ago about the SIFF made me think it was a promoter for the festival. Other things like that that I have seen, but don't recall off the top of my head.

I am sure they know we can see through the bullshit, but it is all about snagging 1 in every 1,000. The same way that spam actually works - you send out 500,000 emails, of those only 100,000 actually read it, and of those only 1 in 1,000 respond - you still get yourself a fair number of hits for very little effort.

    Lame, but it makes sense.

I don't know about all of that, but do you want to know how to grow your penis six inches in four weeks?

Ah, spam. Luckily, we've been provided with a "Report" link for each question and answer. Spammy posts are generally removed very quickly from QL.

I gotta weigh in on this one. First, I laughed out loud at the first response I read, which happened to be Jim C's kind offer.

Second, I agree that some postings appear to be "softballs" that are designed solely to pitch an easy question to be answered and direct folks to a client.

However, this does not bother me.

I can see where this is done in print newspapers and I don't mind it if the Qland staff or Stranger staff need to or want to pitch one to a new advertiser or a client.

Heck, I've noticed the same thing in another local paper that runs a biased "Best of our town" poll each year. Amazingly, there are catagories like "Best Korean Resturant" that is always won by the Korean resturant that advertises in the paper... "Best Place for scoring Odds and Ends" goes to "Odd Lotts"... "Best Leatherworking" goes to "Mountain Leather".... the list goes on and on...

I just skip over those that don't interest me. I'm not forced to read any of those postings, nor do I mind the staff making an extra effort to appease an advertiser. Once.

Everything I've ever posted on Questionland is mere camouflage to hide my shameless promotion of my employer's social media site. Which I'm going to begin doing once built just enough credibility to make it pass for real.

I bill them by the hour for all of it.
