Anybody else have a cat with really strange food tastes?

Here are some of the people foods my cat will beg for/insist we share:

*Mango
*Pumpkin pulp (for pie)
*Marinara
*Corn niblets
*Yogurt
*Mayo

The lid on his canned food is a pop-top. He must be the only cat I know who comes running at the sound of a can opener, KNOWING it's not food for him.

What do your cats like?

Dry Cheerios, muffin or cupcake tops (they leave cookies or any other baked good alone if left on the counter), tortilla chips, popcorn, arugula, high quality cheese (the cheese eating cat snubs anything cheap), corn.

Cat loves: plums, cherries, nectarines - any sour-ish pitted fruit.

Cat goes crazy insane for: pineapple.

Cat dislikes/ignores: tuna, milk, canned cat food.

Odd you ask...my cat enjoys the flavor of young tender human flesh, preferably fresh and still warm.

And those kids are still missing in the neighborhood too....sure those two items are in no way related.

    well shit...

Am I the only (sane) person here who feeds their cat actual, uhm, CAT food?

(It's high-end (100 bucks/month), super-awesome & healthy cat food from royal canin, and the kitties LOVE it, if anyone's wondering).

Peach juice. Beer. Asparagus liquid from the can. Also marinara and corn, pizza sauce, chicken nuggets with the breading perfectly shredded off (so you could recreate a hollow nugget).

When my cat was a kitten, she went gaga over broccoli. Now, she's indifferent to it. But I did drop a leaf of baby romaine on the floor the other day, and she gobbled it up like it was tuna.

Pumpkin is great for cats if they are dehydrated. Corn's not uncommon either, it's in most brands of cat food.

Mine want: tomato sauce (though tomatoes are bad for cats), sundried tomatoes, tortilla chips, canned green peas, cantaloupe, cooked spinach, and also pumpkin.

I had one cat that would go to great lengths to eat the soap from SOS steel wool pads, defeating childproofing and opening sealed boxes to get his fix. He lived to be 18 so I don't think it hurt him too much.

Another cat that I used to live with loved bleach. Not straight bleach, but the dilute solution for sanitizing. I worked in a restaurant at the time and would come home from work smelling like bleach solution and she would go nuttier for the bleach than for catnip. She'd lick my hands raw if I let her as she tried to get the taste of bleach that lingered from long hours of dishwashing.

There was a time when all cats came running at the sound of the can opener (before all the easy open cat food cans).

The mango and pumpkin pulp would be good sources of beta-carotene (metabolized to Vitamin A). Cooked tomatoes (marinara and tomato sauces) are sweet to the taste and corn is high sugar also. Many cats like gnawing on the cobs left over from corn cooked on the cob (one that hasn't seen a lot of butter or salt would be best). Yogurt, in small quantity should be alright as the lactose has been digested by the various bacteria cultures (most adult cats cannot digest lactose any longer and milk and cheese will cause them to have diarrhea). The mayo is one for pause. It certainly must be attractive for the taste buds and feel of the fat content that carnivores get in a fresh kill (high calorie content), but overall I think that any quantity is a bit over the top as far as dietary need or overall health. Having a little dab on your finger for your cat to lick off could be a great treat. But remember it has to be kept refrigerated as it is a great culture medium for harmful bacteria.

Have known a couple of cats that really liked broccoli, fresh or cooked. A friend's cat could tell when it was brought in the house in a grocery bag and would not leave us alone until it got a piece to eat.
