What company should I go with for shared web hosting?

I need to host numerous domains and would prefer something local (although that's not necessary). I will also be hosting my Wordpress blog.

There are literally a million options here, and everyone has a different opinion on which ones are good and which ones suck.

    From my personal experience:
I used Pair (pair.com) for many years, and they are rock-solid, super reliable, extremely professional. They are also more expensive than many hosts, and they are extremely conservative about implementing new features or technologies. This is what allows them to be super reliable.

I eventually couldn't justify the cost of Pair anymore, so I switched to Dreamhost. Very affordable, and in my experience they've been quite solid. They support pretty much anything you might want to do, and have a pretty good interface for managing your sites, databases, etc. They have one-click Wordpress installation, which they will keep up to date, or you can install it and keep up with security patches yourself.

There are countless other options, but those are the ones I know for consumer-level shared hosting.

FWIW, I would avoid Site5. Worked with them on a recent project and their backend interface drove me nuts.

Dreamhost is great for all the reasons everyone else listed, but I'd also like to recommend A Small Orange: http://asmallorange.com/
The guys that run it are awesome, they're extremely fast at getting back to you and will set up just about anything you need and keep everything up to date. Out of everyone I've used, I've been happiest with them.

I use DH to host dozens of sites, and at first did have a lot of issues with site's going down, but that was on 1 of 3 accounts. After buying a rocket launcher and sending pics of grenades, everything has been cool. However, not sure I'd really recommend the shared. It's shared, so it's likely you might get throttled is someone sharing the account is using up bandwidth. I'd go for a private server which is still less than most others, and it has live support.

I agree with everyone else here: Dreamhost is a great general-use hosting provider -- very flexible, easy to use, good value, good uptime. I've found them good for both novices and geeks like myself. I"ve been using them for years and am still happy with em. You can use my referral code to get $20 off if you like: DANWDEAN20

I agree with Anthony regarding Dreamhost. Very low price, LOTS of great features. They're reliable, they offer great service/support, and they have lots of one-click installs, including Wordpress. Their web panel makes it very easy to manage the account, and when I need help, their support wiki almost always gives me the answers I need. They're also carbon-neutral.
