Suze, Salers, and Other Gentian-Based Aperitifs

OK, here's a HARD one: I want Suze. It's a very bitter yellow aperitif, sort of like Campari only more so (and not red).

I brought a bottle back from Paris many moons ago, and I suspect I won't be returning soon, so I need to find it online (or in Canada?). Here's their terrible website: http://www.suze.com/ You'd think that being a Pernod brand the stuff would be relatively common, but you'd be wrong.

So, where can I get this stuff? I don't care if it's illegal or not, I just WANT IT. I can't find it at the usual online liquor stores. Is there an especially great liquor store in Vancouver?

In addition, I want to try other gentian-based booze. Another one is called Salers (http://www.gentiane-salers.com/pages/lagentiane.htm). Any ideas?

I would also appreciate recommendations of other gentian-based booze I don't know about, beyond the common Campari and Aperol. Where did those cocktail people go?

Vancouver liquor stores don't carry it. It's available throughout Quebec, but they don't deliver outside the province, of course. I don't know if you have any Vancouver friends with connections there, but here's the SAQ.com site with Montreal locations, if you do:

    http://www.saq.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/RechercheSuccursale?inventaire=true&storeId=10001&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&productId=59551&partNumber=471870&succInventaire=1&transaction=poiMap&listeSeulement=true®ionId=-2&longitude=-70.380013&latitude=47.665142&pwidth=494&pheight=324

They also sell something called Gentiane de Lure apéritif à base de vin, a gentian-infused wine produced by Henri Bardouin in France.

Now I'm curious to try this stuff. Best of luck!

    What about Bonal?

I haven't had it myself, but it's "made by infusing gentian root, herbs from the Grande Chartreuse mountains, and cinchona (quinine), in a Mistelle base, producing a wine that is known for its complexity," and check out this local lead from just a week ago -

I can check with one of the megastores here in Denver if they can order it. I'd guess that it would have to be by the case, but if you're willing to foot the bill and also pay for extra shipping (not just from France, but also from here to Seattle) I'll ask.

Not sure it helps too much (the only recent post in the discussion picked up their bottle in Tokyo) but it may be of some interest, you might check out http://forums.egullet.org/index.php?/topic/105844-suze-the-topic/ if you haven't already seen the discussion.

After some searching around for the Suze (-Orman)I'm starting to think you'd better book a ticket to Paris, or look around in your extended network for someone willing to bring you back a couple bottles.
