Big night out without the baby

My husband and I are off to dinner for a big night out. Not quite Canlis but a step down. The major restrictions are the man doesn't eat meat (fish is fine) and we'd like to stick to the Wallingford, Phinney, Ravenna area. Also since we're leaving our little one at home, maybe we could skip the interactions with other peoples.

    Check out Sutra in Wallingford. They offer a 4 course meal (for ~$35), with optional wine or non-alcoholic drink pairings. It's served supper-club style--seatings are at specific times and everyone gets the same food, so phone ahead if there are any allergies. Most, if not all their food is local, they use herbs grown in their garden behind the restaurant, and the food is all vegan (please don't let that last bit throw you off, it's great food and a nice, relaxed/upscale atmosphere).

    There's also Tilth, in Wallingford. They have a selection of good food, and they also have veg options on the menu. I think they were in the New York Times as among the best restaurants in the US a while back.

    My husband and I had a lovely dinner at Pair. It's on 55th and 30th, so not too far outside your ideal area, and the menu has a good selection of meatless/fish-only dishes.

    I don't remember what entrees we had, but the olives and the gougeres were fantastic. You might want to call ahead, as we had to wait a bit for a table. The service was just right - not clingy or invasive, but attentive and there when we needed them. They seemed to get that we were out without our kid and wanted to pay attention to one another and nothing else.

    Assuming it's still as good as ever, Carmelita on Phinney Ridge is the way to go. Great vegetarian restaurant that any carnivore can enjoy, and nice intimate atmosphere. My wife and I went there for Valentine's Day every year before we left town.

    If you're open to heading a little west from Phinney, you should go to Sambar. Great atmosphere, awesome cocktails and food. My wife is a vegetarian who eats fish and she loves it there. Here's what they say on their website...
