Is my cat trying to kill me?

I wake up every morning to find my cat staring into my eyes licking his teeth. I've caught him on several occasions trying to use his paws to grab knives from my knife block. And this afternoon I came home to find several crude drawings of a stick figure human being what appears to being by a stick figure of a cat...and the paper is covered with paw prints.

Do I have any reason to be concerned?

Your cat likely has a budding desire to kill you, but is hesitant to pull the trigger, so to speak. It sounds to me as though he is murder-curious and there is a distinct possibility this stage will pass. It is encouraging to see that he has poured his curiosity into creative outlets such as drawing. I encourage you to help foster your cat's budding art career while discreetly moving the knife block out of reach. Put crayons, not knives in his paws.

You know I love you, Cato, but is there somewhere we should send donations to your cat?

He read your answer to Kristin the other day and is planning revenge.

He might be trying to assimilate you into the cat collective.

If that's the case, you might as well give up now, because resistance is Purr-tile.

The Oatmeal (aka Matthew Inman) has a handy guide to answering this question. There is also a quiz, if you need additional help making the determination.

No, your cat is trying to extort protection money from you... (haven't you ever seen the Sopranos?)

Yes, you should be concerned if you ignore these signs. You should also offer him a 15% take, and whatever freebies you manage to "find" that have "fallen off" the seafood truck.

Or get some fresh. Couldn't hurt. That gato sounds like a capo.

Good luck. Remember: leave the fishing pole, take the cannoli.

Definitely a cat assassin. Try hiding the knives.

What drugs are you on? Of course your cat is trying to off you.

But what cat doesn't climb on your chest when you're asleep and stare into your eyes when you wake?
