Do "main event" questions belong on the front page and RSS feed?

With the "main event" now having its own blurb at the top of the page, do you think the front page and/or main RSS feed should be reserved for all other questions?

It's kind of daunting to sift through the RSS feed for "regular" questions to read or answer. I've found myself participating less due to the density of main event questions in the feed, particularly if I'm not interested in the topic. I'll often skip days at a time, and eventually just hit "Mark all as read" and start over.

I've also noticed that "regular" questions will get pushed from the front page rather quickly, making it less likely that they'll get any answers, let alone one that's mushroom-worthy.

What does the community think? Anyone having a similar experience lately?

I completely agree with you (although I don't QL via rss so I guess I don't have the exact same experience).

I used to check the main page much more regularly. But at some point when I started going there I'd only see a page of questions about soap or cats or taxes (note: I like soap and cats!). It was always a bit jarring.

It would be nice if there was a link/button to "Hide Event Questions" or whatever.

I feel the same way as you and stinkbug, and the 'hide' suggestion is superb.
