What is the best Seattle park for a 50ish-person BBQ, with drinking?

Trying to avoid paying fees, etc. Just want to get together with a bunch of friends and plastic cups.

    Alcohol?
There are no seattle city parks where you can drink sans permit.
    see http://clerk.ci.seattle.wa.us/~scripts/nph-brs.exe?d=CODE&s1=18.12.257.snum.&Sect5=CODE1&Sect6=HITOFF&l=20&p=1&u=%2F%7Epublic%2Fcode1.htm&r=1&f=G

However, there is a lovely recreational activity nearly if not as good as a park that does not have any park liquor permits required to enjoy the alcoholic beverage of your choice: boating! You can put in somewhere with BBQ pits (or bring your own), grill up some veggies/meats, and hit the water again and very nearly have your cake & eat it too.

    Parks with water access:

Alki beach and Golden Gardens are excellent for this if you have a beachable craft (or a big enough boat that you can just bring a hand-carry boat to shore). Carkeek park isn't bad either.

Don Armeni is also a great tie up spot (saltwater) AND has picnic sites AND a very sweet view, and Seacrest park and the new floating dock are right next door.

Waterway 19 / Gas Works park might work well for this. The shelter/picnic area in the old compressor building has great BBQ function.

    Also:
Fremont Canal park might work, near the shelter at 2nd & Canal Street - not sure though.
    Leschi Park has moorage FWIW.
AtlanticCity Boatramp on Lk WA has an approved boat tie-up area but no BBQ - though nearby Beer Sheva park (directly north) has picnic BBQ areas and handcarry boat launches.
Denny Blaine isn't a bad place to sneak into if you have your own portable BBQ. Don't stare at the sunbathers though.

generally, washington state parks allow alcohol consumption while city parks do not.

Technically you can't drink at Golden Gardens, but everyone does anyway. The only time the cops crack down is if people are being unruly and causing trouble. lf you're worried about it, just bring plastic cups or some small paper bags to put your drink in. lt should be fine.

There is one main picnic area with a grill at Golden Gardens as well that would probably accommodate your group. Don't quote me on this, but l think there's a way to reserve the area as well; l'm pretty sure some friends of mine reserved it for a birthday party at some point.

Sounds like you're going to need someone's backyard. With 50 people, the chances are excellent that you'll get busted just due to the high number of targets.

Here is how I get around this problem( drinking in parks) Get an old gas grill with wheels. Obtain an old style 1/4 barrel keg. Spray paint it white and put it under the grill where the propane tank would go. To a casual observer it looks like you are just having a bbq.Drink fast though, you can't keep up the subterfuge if it is a bucket of ice!
