Affordable plain non-sweatshop t-shirts?

I hate deciding what to wear and would like to buy a bunch of the same shirt. Is there somewhere I can buy 5-10 plain women's t-shirts for < or = to about $12 that weren't made by 3 year olds in a developing country? I know there is American Apparel but their ads and store are so ugly I don't really want to buy from them...

All T-shirts are made in sweatshops. Robots on an assembly line are ill equipped to make clothing.

LA is the t-shirt capital of the world. The place is over-run with knitting mills and cut-and-sew factories. The people who work at and own the companies are, for the most part, from other countries. The Iranians and Koreans dominate the industry in LA. Shirts are made there that sell under lots of different brands. Generally speaking, the shirts from LA are the very expensive brands you find in nicer stores. The shirts that are cheap come from places like Bangladesh.

If you are sincere about wanting shirts made ethically and don't want to pay high prices for designer brands, you are stuck with American Apparel. This exactly what they are about. Suck it up and go into the "ugly" store. It could be worse, you could be working in a sweat shop in Bangladesh. Those places are REALLY ugly.

I wish you luck but in general anything you can find at that price has probably been produced in a sweatshop. Paying workers a fair wage means you can't get things ultra cheap. That Dharma Trading site looks cool but they admit that, while they're against sweatshops and slave labor, they're too small a company to have any clout with their suppliers as to working conditions and that they haven't visited most of the factories and have no way of knowing if the workers are being treated fairly.

If you want to be sure it's non-sweatshop clothing, you kind of have to go with American Apparel or something similarly priced.
