What's the best way to find a producer? I have a script that I'd like to direct but am clueless when it comes to finding a budget.

I'd like to hook up with a producing student or somebody who is learning the ropes (a seasoned vet seems a bit out of my grasp at this point) but I don't really know a lot of people in Seattle yet.

Get involved in the film community: volunteer on a shoot or at an org like Northwest Film Forum or Washington Film Works. The mayor's office has a monthly happy hour the third Wednesday of every month that is good for hearing about what's going on in town. The people working on those films are usually too busy to attend, but you'll find out who they are. Look at the credits of local films you like or which resemble your project, get IMDBpro and track those people down.

I'll reiterate what I told our teen contributor; Northwest Film Forum has a callboard that I highly recommend using to solicit crews.

    Here's the info:

Call local film schools and ask how you can post the position. You can also post on Craigslist and Facebook. Interview candidates and form a relationship with one that you like and trust. In addition, joining the Northwest Film Forum would give you access to film crew and equipment.

Offer to pay them for their time.

Do you have a reel? Have you directed theater? Do you have anything other than a desire to direct?

If you meet and like a producer you should have something to show them.
