Can my godson get sick from wading in pools with dogs?

I was just down at Cal Anderson park and was thinking I'd like to bring my godson down to play in the water. But then I thought it might not be the healthiest thing for him to do, there were dogs in there, one of looked like it was taking a pee. Are there any real health risks for the little ones? I noticed there were signs saying that both dogs and kids are not allowed in the water, but everyone (both dogs and people) were ignoring the signs, like the rules had expired or something. Is the swine flu making me extra paranoid?

There is risk of exposure to something or other, but it's one of those risks that's worth it because it's great fun. The Cal Anderson park fountain is awesome to wade in, after all. If I can ever get myself over there when it isn't freezing I'm going to put my kid in.

It's kind of uncool to let your dog in there, what with the beach at Magnuson park being at your dog's disposal and all, but I'm not going to lose sleep over people doing it.

Adults and kids with pets are healthier than those without pets, and those who get out and do things are healthier than those who isolate themselves. I just stay away from risks with not much payoff.

No. You are right to be cautious. The signs were posted for a reason. Public health. Keep your loved ones out of the water. There is good reason to be concerned.

The water in the kiddie pool, the actual Wading Pool, just south of the old pumphouse? Shouldn't be any dogs in there.
(Just tell the godson not to eat any brown floaters.)

Or are you talking about the Reflecting Pool, the end of the trail for the water coming out of the big volcano-ish mountain? Cause that DOES have signs and NO they aren't "expired"...
Cause isn't that like, our reservoir drinking water....?

Please don't have your little one, canine or otherwise, in THAT water.
