What's the best way to shop around scripts without leaving Seattle?

I'm a film student living here in Seattle, halfway through the film program at Seattle Central. I have a knack for screenwriting and I would love to sell some scripts, but I just don't know where to begin. I know a lot of aspiring screenwriters move to LA, but I just don't have the time or money for that. Should I get an agent? How?

thanks.

I've had a film I wrote distributed and still haven't found it useful or necessary to get an agent. That said, I haven't sold a script since, and that was five years ago. I know one strong, working, selling screenwriter in Seattle, Douglas Horn. Go to the mayor's office happy hour third Wednesday of the month and track him down. He is the source on this, here.

I recommend sending it to the sundance screenlab. if a script gets into that program, that will give you exposure. screenlab is competitive but it's not impossible. http://www.sundance.org/applications/ffp/

The Nicholl Fellowship is the best contest to win, by far. Even getting placed in the QF will get doors opened for you. Enter when you have a script worthy. Got to Northwest Screenwriter's Guild meetings, make friends and get people to read and critique your work.
