Savory cocktails?

I recently had a cocktail composed of corn-infused vodka, muddled tomato, onion (very little, I expect), ginger and turmeric. I loved that it was more savory than sweet. Any more ideas, beyond Bloody Marys?

Wow that sounds amazing! Savory cocktails are fun to get creative with. One successful infusion was Thai red curry paste infused with cantaloupe in silver rum – that was a wow! A few years back I did an interesting cocktail for Volterra Restaurant that had fennel infused vodka, a touch of blood orange and Italian Chestnut honey which is very savory like in flavor. The cocktail was then served in a glass that had a ½ rim of the restaurants fennel salt. It was super flavorful.

A simple savory cocktail option is to play on the martini theme - olives are the classic, but try a cornichon or spicy wax pepper for variety. You can also do a pickled onion (making the drink a gibson).

I think the delights of savory flavors is one of the driving factors in the popularity of olives as garnishes and the rise of the dirty martini.

Simple choices would include the michelada, which adds several savory flavors to a nice Mexican lager.

Another great choice is having a sangrita with a nice sipping tequila. Barrio (both on Capitol Hill and in Bellevue) makes both a red and green sangrita and I can highly recommend both.
