What special cocktail should I buy my wife tonight for her birthday?

It's a special night complete with babysitter, theater and late dinner. I'd like to order her something special. She likes sweet more than savory but not syrupy. Her stand by cocktail is a greyhound.

    I'll stick with the grapefruit as well and recommend a:

    Hemingway Daiquiri
    (aka Papa Doble Daiquiri)
    1½ oz Light Rum (Havana Club)
    ½ oz Grapefruit Juice
    ½ oz Maraschino Liqueur
    ½ oz Lime Juice
    ½ oz Simple Syrup
    Shake all ingredients with ice and strain into a martini glass.

    I would recommend trying a French 75. It is a gin based cockail with of splash of champagne...and a little bubbly is alwsys great for birthdays! If your wife is gin shy you could always ask the bartender to make it wit vodka or even grapefruit vodka would be nice. Cheers to a great birthday! - Kathy

    If she likes grapefruit, I can think of two options, The Blinker and the Paloma

    Blinker Cocktail

    1 1/2 oz rye whiskey
    3/4 oz grapefruit juice
    1 teaspoon grenadine

    shake over ice, strain into cocktail glass, sip with no worries of unexpected sourness

    Paloma

    2 ounces reposado tequila
    juice of 1/2 a lime
    pinch coarse salt

    Add ingredients to an ice-filled Collins glass; top with grapefruit soda.
