How do I get rid of bed bugs without throwing away all my furniture?

Ahhhhh!! I think we've gotten bed bugs. I've heard one of the things you're supposed to do to get rid of them is throw out all your furniture. However, my boyfriend and I really can't afford to buy all new furniture. Not to mention that some of the pieces were gifts and are really beautiful, so I would feel bad just getting rid of them.

On top of that, I have really mixed feelings about putting all these chemical sprays near our bed. I don't want to sleep with cancer causing agents all around me. But I also don't want to sleep with little filthy blood suckers helping themselves to a delicious human buffet.

Ugh, this is so gross. Any suggestions?

This worked really well for me. I put down a thin layer around my bed, walls, and in my doorways and they all died - haven't had a single problem since. Really cheap solution, and was very effective for me.

Use steam. Steam is actually the only thing that will kill the eggs, which can lay dormant for several months. Rent a steamer and use it on your mattress paying special attention to the creases. Also steam the curtains and the area between the floor molding and the carpet. Then use a mixture of Talstar (very little toxicity to mammals) & Gentrol ( a growth inhibitor so the bedbugs will die before they can lay more eggs). Be sure to treat cracks and crevices. Pull everything out of your dresser and treat the inside of the drawers also treat your bed frame. The trick is to be thorough. If that sounds like a lot of work, hire a pest control
company that specializes in bed bug treatments. Eastside exterminators is a really good one and they warranty their work.

    Good luck!
