  0 0 Birkenstocks. They've been my only pair of shoes (and I mean ONLY) for about six months now. They barely show any sign of wear and tear and are the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned.   0 0 My boyfriend just walked a pair of keens to death in 3 months. They were bought in June this summer and now already have holes and the inside of the heel is wearing away. He conducts most of his errands by walking, visits his friends by foot also, and will also just go on walks. This summer every two days he may have walked at least 4 miles if not more than 6 in one day. It ebbs and flows with the weather and activities. He got them at The Walking Store in northgate mall.   0 0 If you are going to be walking around while it's moderately warm or at least pleasant outside, and aren't opposed to sandals, I have to recommend FitFlops! I walked around London in them last summer with no complaints! They are seriously the most comfortable shoes I've ever had. I wear them everywhere, even just walking around the house. If it's cold where you'll be, they have a winter style you could try, but I had the yucky problem of the clog version making my feet too sweaty. (They also have a brand new version that looks like a normal shoe, but I can't speak for it since I have yet to try it.) If you are going to be walking WAY too much for flip flops, ignore me and carry on. If not, try some on! The women's version seems to be more common in stores (not sure about stores in Seattle), but you could always try some on to see if you like the feel and then buy a men's style online.   0 0 I have peculiar feet - very small, but very wide (I've had shoe salesfolk ask me if I wouldn't just as soon wear the box), and it's difficult to fit me properly. I do reasonably well in many styles of Skechers, but I find them unsuitable for long walks. For any kind of really long walk, or for rough terrain, I end up going back to the pair of el cheapo kids' Hi Tec hiking boots I bought (I shit you not) 20 years ago. I don't know what I'll do when those wear out, they're the only footwear that has NEVER given me blisters. I have some Ryko and Reebok athletic shoes that are pretty comfortable too, although too soft for rough terrain or real hiking. Some of the Reeboks look like ordinary shoes (you don't have to get bright-neon-white).   1 0 Tell you what. Everyone has different feet. What works for some, won't work for others. However, they sell almost all the brands people have mentioned here at The Walking Company. There's one in Bel Square (over by the Cinnabon), there might be others elsewhere. They will have you stand on an electronic pad thingy that shows which areas of your feet get the most pressure, and will suggest shoes accordingly. They will also recommend inserts should you need them. I stand on my feet all day at work, and that's where I got my shoes. A lot of people recommended Danskos, but I'm between their sizes, and they take for-EVER to break in. I was in pain at the end of my first shift wearing them. I switched to MBTs, which is what I still wear. However, they look ridiculous. Not to mention, are expensive as hell. But they keep my feet happy, and allow me to work, so I wear them. So go down there when you're relaxed and have some time, walk around in a few different kinds of shoes, make sure you really like a pair, and then go with those. katiedid answered in Trips & Travel about 1 year ago | Report 2 comments by CleverScreenName and katiedid… 0 0 Great recommendation. I once bought a pair of Doc Martens to get looks and comfort. Breaking them in likely would have helped, but after a short walk I was limping so badly I could never wear them again. I actually like (one brand of) cowboy boots for semi-serious walking. I've done one 4-mile walk in cowboy boots and that's too much, but for most city walking they're great for me. I have a pair that I would dearly love if not for the all-too-common Earth Shoe quirk of the back of the shoe cutting horribly into my Achilles' tendon. This was not apparent until I tried to walk more than a block in them, but it makes them too painful to wear for me. Sadly, much as I like them, Earth Shoes do not work for me.   0 0 I'm including the link from Zappos that shows the Simple New Original Clog. Hands down the most comfortable, versatile shoe I've ever worn. I work in a hospital and stand for hours in the OR and walk 4-5 miles a day in these shoes. They're nearly indestructible and they're easy to clean. I turned a bunch of people on to these at work and everyone loves them. They slip on/off easily for airport lines, they split the difference between casual and formal, and they're just plain cool. I've tried Birks, Eccos, Crocs, Danskos, Mephistos, Sanitas, Clarks, Doc Martens, Keens and Merrills. These are by far my favorite. And no, I'm not a shill for Simple or Zappos.   2 0 Some of the Doc Martens are good. In addition to the clunky boots and shoes they make some lightweight, comfortable and trendy casual shoes. I have a pair that served as great traveling shoes for a three-week trip in Greece and Italy. There's now a Doc Marten store in downtown Seattle. It has a limited selection, but it's worth trying on the different kinds, as the different varieties of Docs can fit very differently.   2 0 Great question. I have lots of bad answers -- shoes that are comfortable but look like orthopedic monstrosities from the 1920s, and hip shoes that peel the skin off after three blocks. I have bad feet and want better. The best I've found have been some slipons by Clarks.
