Is Seattle water safe to drink?

I'm drinking it from the tap of a 50 year old apartment on 12th Ave. East. Should I be using a filter?

    Yes.

If you live north of the Ship Canal, your water comes from the Tolt River, and tastes kinda bad, but it's perfectly safe. If you're south of the Ship Canal, your water comes from the Cedar River, and your water is delicious. Your building's pipes may add unpleasantness.

Filters aren't necessary unless you don't like the taste. We use one (we're north) but I have no qualms about drinking it straight if I need to. If your water is really bad, or even if it isn't, I recommend adding about four parts good scotch whisky to one part water.

it's safe and delicious. i keep hearing there's a bit of lead in it, but i've had no adverse reactions since moving here.

Can't be any worse that ours. Every time (I mean EVERY time) I drink water from the tap here (even if mixed in something (tea, coffee, fruitpunch) or use ice cube, I get a stomach ache. Even the bottled water now tends to do that too...

Officially, there's nothing wrong with our water, except for the big legal fight Dupont has on it's hands that the C-8 (chemical used to make teflon) here for the last 30-40 years, may be responsible for elevated rates of cancer. They've just paid for every water system within a 20 mile radius to have an activated charcoal filter system added... but admitting NO liability while doing it, ok?

(Of course, people smoke like a chimney around here, but still complain that the air is poluted by the chemical plants...cough, cough... and so THEY must be responsible for the high rate of lung cancer, cough, cough...

Don't know what C-8 is? Look it up. Next time you use non-stick cookware, think of us...

Definitely safe in terms of bacteria and heavy metals. But a filter can take out the lingering chlorine taste and any bad tasting minerals from the system or the pipes in your building.
