Is it illegal to have a sex manual in Saudi Arabia?

A newlywed couple I know are moving to Saudi Arabia separately so she can teach English this fall. He will follow in about three months by xmas.

They are having a yard sale and have a new copy of "She Comes First" and "He Comes Next" for a quarter a piece. What a bargain.
But I started thinking, what will they do for their sexual longing while separated?

I considered buying the books and then mailing them to them separately, as a joke, but fear that some snoop will chop their hands off for masturbating, or some such nonsense.

Now, i'm wondering just how restrictive is the culture. Would they be at risk for having a "marriage manual" or similar sex book in their personal library while in Saudi Arabia? What about a vibrator? Condoms? Just how far does this go?

Hard to say. In the visa application, it says that "pornographic materials" are not permitted in the country, but I don't know if this book would count. Just possessing porn is illegal.

You may want to play it safe and assume that they'll survive for three months.

It's not as simple as whether it's illegal or not. It most likely is, but then so is alcohol and pornography and satellite dishes too. Yet people in the Magic Kingdom have all these things and more, behind closed doors and the high, blank walls that surround their courtyards.

There's a dramatic difference between what goes on in public and in private in Saudi Arabia. It also matters a lot who you are, and who you are corrupting with your foreign influences. A privileged foreigner (from a rich country with sought-after skills) who is sharing their filth with other foreigners is not going to attract the kind of scrutiny as a foreigner from a despised country (poor, underdeveloped source of cheap laborers) who is sharing that stuff with Saudi citizens. Corrupting Muslims is a far worse offense than corrupting infidels. Being rich excuses a lot.

I would expect they do scan mail in some way; how much effort they go to I don't know. But I wouldn't risk it for the sake of a little joke.

Which isn't all that funny anyway, I think. Mailing them the sex books they sold at a yard sale is funny because __________?
