If a woman wears no bra, but also wears something baggy, like a sweater, is it really that noticeable that she doesn't have a bra on?

Do people really pay attention to that sort of thing that they would actually notice if a woman was not wearing a bra under a sweater?

Okay, truthfully, sometimes I feel like going braless if I am just going out for a short time, but I can never tell just how bad it looks and if anyone would notice. You know how sometimes you look in the mirror and things look okay, but when you get outside things look way worse?

Yeah, people might notice. But why should you give a shit?

I can tell. Always, instantly. I wouldn't go so far as say it looks bad. Usually quite the contrary. But if you're uncomfortable with people like me being able to tell, you should know.

I think it's noticeable even on small-chested women because you usually see some nipple. On anything above a small B cup you also see the jiggle. I wouldn't do it, but I'm kinda uptight like that and also I'm not small-chested so it's just not comfortable to me to have everything hanging out.

If you don't care about the jiggle and the potential for people to know you're not wearing a bra, I say do what feels right.

It's going to depend on the woman. If she's small-chested, it probably won't be very noticeable. If a large-breasted woman wears no bra, even with a baggy sweatshirt it's going to show, just because we're used to breasts not moving and they will move when she moves. Left to themselves, breasts do that.

If comfort isn't an issue, the real question is whether anyone really cares if you are braless when you go to the grocery store and if you care if they care.

Of course I agree with everyone else here encouraging you to do whatever you want, and not worry about if anyone can tell or not.

But...I remember working with this woman who would never wear her bra to work, and would wear very low cut shirts. The job required a lot of bending and lifting. It was extremely awkward to have to look at her nipples every time she bent over (it really isn't even optional - it is like a biological requirement to look at nipples when they appear for me).

So totally agree - don't stress it that much and do whatever you want. Just, you know, don't do it ALL the time and, yeah, don't wear things where you are popping out every 30 seconds.

I have gone 99% braless for the last decade. I wear about a 34 B and don't have very protruding nipples, so I don't think it's too terribly obvious most of the time. It took me some time to get myself to the "don't give a shit" mental state, but I'm mostly there now. I go braless under just about everything and it's great. I have an argument prepped in case anyone ever gives me shit about it, but happily (surprisingly), it's never come up.

One suggestion...for the times when I kinda DO need to wear a bra (thin light-colored fabrics, or low necklines with probability of bending over), I found a sort of in-between that I really like. It's basically a very thin sports bra. It's made by Barely There, and I got mine at Macy's (I think it's something like this: http://www.barelythere.com/style.asp?cid=1&sid=1&id=127). Might want to give it a try, if that works for you and your bra size.

A: Yes, if they have a dick and are straight, they will probably notice.

B: To hell with what they think! It's you who has to be comfortable. If few women wore bras, immobile, nippleless boobs would be considered abnormal, which in fact they are, and most women would be more comfortable.

You won't make "People of Walmart" unless you're showing back boobs or wearing fun fur. Even then, if you stay out of Walmart, you're safe.

Are you trying to avoid anyone being able to tell that you're bra-less, period? Or just don't want to be that lady everyone is all "God, lady, you really need to put a bra on?"

Bra-less doesn't really attract that much (negative) attention unless the nippular region is clearly visible or south of the mid rib cage.

Avoid lightweight, loosely knit, or light colored fabrics (they're more revealing once you get into different lighting, even if they look okay at home) if you're worried about showing the nips. Avoid going bra-less entirely if you'll feel so insecure that it's all you can think about when you're out and about.

Most people will be able to TELL, but that doesn't mean they CARE, especially when it's obvious someone is just on a quick grocery run.

Clever Screen Name has given you a great answer.

My experience is that most of us would not notice, unless the woman is moving, walking, bending, or in some way, pressing the breasts forward into the material.

It's not hard to read where the nipple is when it breaks the line of the smooth fabric. In fact, there used to be a line of bras that featured false nipples sewn in specifically to do this.

If you feel the bra-less look is "bad", don't attempt this outside.

For years, young women were counseled ("warned") not to go bra-less as it might break down the supporting tissue of the breast. I think nowadays most women realize that the breast sags over time, no matter what you do.

Still, I would tend not to do this... unless you are looking for a reaction from men that you meet.

I wonder about this myself. I went without a bra a couple of times this summer when it was really hot -- I was wearing cotton with a busy pattern, so I thought, what the hell. But I was a bit worried about looking...unseemly, I guess. Or worse, skanky. Who knows what people think? And then there was that Seinfeld episode with the bra-less woman...

I guess I'm less worried about whether people can tell that I'm bra-less, than about whether they're judging me for it. The way I feel, as long as it's not super-obvious, like if you're wearing something clingy or white, then it shouldn't be considered tacky at all.

One final, horrifying thought: is this at all comparable to guys who wear track pants without underwear?

    Late response, but yeah.

I had a couple little breast biopsies done a few years ago (nothing serious, just cysts in bad spots) and couldn't wear a bra for a couple weeks while the sites healed. I instead wore a tank top under my normal clothes and, while I didn't get any breast support, it was not obvious that I wasn't wearing a bra. Of course, I normally wear sports bras anyway, so maybe it wasn't substantially different from my normal appearance.

    Go for it ...within reason.

'Looks bad' is different from 'causes car accidents*'.

Proceed with caution and please do not jog braless.

*TWICE I've seen car accidents, within a few blocks after spying a braless jogger (plus, uhm... isn't she all Ouch?)
