A good bakery

I'm looking for a good quality local bakery, preferably on Capitol Hill.

I'm making a wholesome Chili as part of a special birthday meal, and would like to find a really good crusty bread to go with it.

Hey! Y'all don't serve bread with chili!

For chili, you make up a pan of cornbread (with pieces of Ortega chiles and corn kernels) using a cast iron skillet.

So stop looking for a good bakery and start looking for a great cornmeal!

If I were you (which I am not, but you asked) I would get a nice crusty bread from Boulangerie Nantaise...while they are in Belltown, luckily you can find their wares at Madison Market in Capitol Hill!

OR - you can find Columbia City Bakery Bread at the Sunday Cap. Hill Farmer's market...

OR - oh man, would the savory biscuits from North Hill Bakery pair nicely with chili.

    Just saying.

essential baking in Madison valley bakes a fine loaf of bread. Not really capitol hill but, almost.

North hill bakery on 15th is also good but, more of a cake and roll place.

If you're a confident enough cook to make chili, have you considered baking the bread? If you have an oven and a cast-iron skillet, baking good bread is extremely simple, and baking good cornbread even simpler.

I'm a big fan of Macrina Bakery. They have a few locations, the closest one being in Belltown.

Also agree with Dan on Dahlia Bakery.

It's worth you time to head down to Belltown and pick up a loaf from Dahlia Bakery. There are also a lot of good options at Three Sisters's Bakery in the Pike Place Market. Grand Central Bakery is also a good option and you can get their bread at most larger grocery stores.
