Recommendations for stock iPhone earbud replacement?

I'm looking to replace the stock earbuds on my iPhone 3GS. I mostly want better audio and a different color, but I've also had two pairs of the stock earbuds go quiet on the right side and am willing to spend some money on something more durable.

The stock earbuds don't fit in my ears, so there is a distinct lack of bass, and I find myself turning them up too loud when I step out onto a busy street. Some kind of low-profile circumaural headphones would be ideal.

Another important thing would be the cord. The cord length should be similar to the length on the stock earbuds, and I want to get away from the stock white mugger bait.

I know I could just read reviews and buy a pair of great headphones, but here's the kicker: I really want the iPhone microphone/remote. I found ones with the mic, but not the remote. I can't seem to find the right google mojo to get much information on this. Do manufacturers make headphones with iPhone-compatible mic and remote? The position of the remote and cord length might suffer, but is there any kind of adapter?

What do you use with your iPhone?

How long ago did you get your iPhone? If less than a year, then you may be able to walk into an Apple store and have then replace the earbuds. Yes, I know you want something better, but getting a free pair of them isn't too bad of a deal. Perhaps they've change the warranty recently though, but not too long ago I was able to get my ipod earbuds replaced with no questions asked.

In any case, yes, there are non-Apple ones that include remote+mic. For example, this Sony model (which I've seen at Target):

I'm not a fan of earbuds with silicone seals but perhaps you are. (I don't like how I can hear my footsteps when walking.)

This page shows some of the other types that Sony makes (which have a remote+mic on them):

I don't know about the remote, but I bought a pair of the Nixon headphones from Nordstrom of all places, they were about 40 bucks and are actually pretty nice (no ultimate ears, but those are like 200 bucks). Plus they come in all sorts of different colors for your choosing.
