Do you own a microwave?

Or do they totally gross you out?

I've had one in every place that I've lived- but I've never bought one- it's always just come with the apartment or the roommate. I use one every now and again, but I also find myself almost always eating luke-warm food when I do because I can't stomach the idea of putting anything in there for more than a minute.

Nope. Haven't owned one, haven't missed one. There's one at work but it's unspeakably filthy -- the last time I tried to reheat a cup of coffee I swear I heard it chuckle at me.

I own one, but the habits I absorbed from an anti-microwave ex-girlfriend have lingered. I never use it. I like my stove.

Yes, I own one. It's much faster and easier to heat up leftovers than the oven or stove. Why would it gross me out?

I own one. The microwaves that really gross me out are ones at schools and work places. OMG! Those things can be so nasty!!!

I don't own one, but I don't begrudge those who do. I have a toaster oven and that works amazingly well.

No. Previous tenant left one, but it sat unplugged on top of my fridge for 8 months and I finally got rid of it. I have a gas stove. Don't need anything else.

But they don't gross me out. All microwaves do is make water molecules vibrate and heat up. All cooking methods have upsides and downsides as far as protecting or releasing nutrients, and microwaves are no worse in this regard. I think people are just freaked out about them because they don't understand how they work.

    Yep, had three so far.
Two have burned out or failed.
The first lasted more than 12 years.
The second GE replacement from Walmart would brown, or roast or microwave. It failed exactly one year from when bought and NO ONE at Walmart had the slightest idea what to do or how to honor the warranty.
Next one was/is smaller and simpler. It works well and doesn't even blow the fuse when it runs along with the washer like the old one did!

I don't think there's anything wrong with them, as long as you understand NO METAL ON OR IN OR NEAR the oven. And why.
The jury is still out on just which plastics are microwave safe and don't give off toxins.

    Comments anyone?

No, I do not own one. But I don't think they "gross me out". I think I just don't want to be someone who only eats microwaved meals. I use one at my workplace though.

They gross me out (mainly because they kill so many nutrients, which are the whole reason we should be eating in the first place), but there is one built in to the condo we're renting, so we have one. I think we've used it twice. Sometimes I use the one at work to heat up soup, but it always makes me feel dirty afterward.
