Does she ignor sounds that she used to respond to?
Does she look startled when you approach from behind?

Does she swivel her ears to hear what's behind her or in another part of the house?

And the biggest give away, does she wear a hearing aide? Or is she obviously starring at your lips?

Wait till the cat is sleeping sometime, then mew like a kitten (or yowl). Or make another loud noise that doesn't involve vibration. If the cat reacts, the cat is not deaf.

Clap nearby (but not *right* behind his head) run the vacuum, see if you can wake him up with noises when he is asleep.

My cat is deaf (and albino, which is another clue) and no vet I have met will "diagnose" a deaf cat.

Start teaching some signs right away because disciplining a deaf cat is NOT easy.

Also, deaf cats make a crazy yowling noise that is unmistakable.

If you post some yowling on youtube, let me know and I'll take a listen.

Start verbally abusing it. If you really attack it's self-esteem for, like, three days without getting a passive-aggressive puke pile on the kitchen floor, then your cat is deaf.

Take it to a vet to be properly diagnosed.

Additionally, why do so many people readily assume cats are female? How would we get more cats if they were all female?
