Anybody Know Any Cruelty, War Crime, Racism and Atrocity Free Vacation Sites?

Charles Mudede evidently thinks that we shouldn't go on vacation to places where terrible things have happened, in his War History & Tourism posting.

Kind of begs the question -- where can somebody go for their vacation without going somewhere involving a past genocide, war crime, racial or political horror, etc?

I suggest somewhere organized groups of people have never lived. How's Antarctica looking?

Well, I'll take a serious swing at this, however I'm not sure a site / land mass can itself be racist or guilty of war crimes... (though antarctica is certainly horribly Cruel from a survival standpoint), but that said,

Tuvalu isn't bad: they have the distinctions of being both one of the world's smallest nations AND no funding/keeping no military - plus they only get about a hundred tourists a year, so no crowds!
    also:
    Some regions of Canada?
Switzerland is famous for remaining neutral since the Congress of Vienna (though they certainly get their guards involved at the Vatican).

    Iceland might be my favorite
    - they also have no standing army*, they've kicked out the US airforce planes that were kept there years ago, and have 'the freest press in the world', a constitutional democracy, and apparently no native people were enslaved/dislocated to make that nation (unless you count elves...which they often do. I kid you not).
As a bonus, their hydro and geothermal power plants put most other nations to shame on an environmental scale: they're on track to be literally energy independent in about 40 years.
(*while they did send one coast guard unit to "aid/attack" Iraq, it was a mine/bomb-removal unit.)

Kenya. l lived there for about seven years and just got back from a trip there, and while it's changed some (meaning it's gotten more Westernized, which l'm not very fond of), it's generally an awesome place to go. Expensive to fly there (cheaper in the off season, of course), but your expenses once you get there are minimal unless you decide to stay in a five star hotel and do a bunch of expensive touristy stuff, some of which l would recommend anyway. But day to day expenses are pretty low. A few tribal issues, but they won't involve you. No war, cruelty, racism, or atrocity, and the people are beautiful and friendly. But make sure to be smart about the cash you're carrying around and how you're carrying it (no wallet in the back pocket) and do your best not to stand out too much or you'll make a target of yourself. There are actually tourists who come wearing full on colonial safari outfits; don't do that.

l have friends and family there who can point you in the right direction when it comes to sightseeing and events, and at least one will probably go with you and show you around. lf you're interested, go to the Stranger forums, look me up under the same screenname, and email me for more info. Cheers.

Generally speaking, any group of people too passive to commit atrocities amongst themselves or against others were enslaved or wiped out eventually. So, I agree with CleverScreenName: Antarctica.

    That's an awfully tall order.
    What prompts your question?
How far are you willing to travel?
Overseas? Only by car? Flight? Hike?
What do you want to do when there?
    Rest? Party? Learn history? Sightsee?
