I'm looking to play old school games like Sonic, Super Mario, Mega Man on my laptop - how would I do this?

I've had friends who I know set up emulators to play old console games on their computer - but I've never taken the time to figure out how to do this for myself.

Anyone know how I can set this up and get the games running? Or a good website that explains it and won't pack my computer full of viruses or waste my time?

    Video game emulator!

    http://www.emulator-zone.com/

That's just one source, but you can get emulators for any classic video game system and practically every game ever made is available online for free.

You can also find controller to USB converters on ebay and such if you want to play with a controller.

    fyi
There are many Sonic/Mario/MegaMan minigames on the various free online games sites (aka flash games). Some of are actually legit and not just unlicensed ripoffs, too.
