How do I bake delicious things in my crappy microwave "oven?"

I don't have an oven. I do have a microwave with an "oven" setting. Unfortunately, this "oven" doesn't provide heat suitable for baking - anything I put in there will be burnt on top long before the middle is cooked. I can make cookies in it if I flip them halfway through, and anything thicker than a cookie will be crunchy on top and bottom (if I flip it) but still gooey in the middle. So, does anyone have ideas for how I can get the heat away from the top and bake things nice and evenly? I can't afford any new appliances right now.

Toaster oven--costs about $20 for a cheap one.

I agree that an inexpensive toaster oven would be a step closer to baking.

I had a friend who used to bake in the microwave. Food definitely had a different texture, but beggars can't be choosers, as they say. She had a microwave cookbook that had cake recipes in it. I can't remember now whether it was the Betty Crocker microwave cookbook or the Microwave Gourmet cookbook. I'm pretty sure she had both, but I can't remember which she'd have open when she was "baking."

You definitely need to be able to concentrate on flavour rather than texture, though. If texture is a big part of why you like certain foods, you'll definitely be disappointed with microwave "baking."
