Where can I get a leather dress custom-made?

For years, I've wanted a leather cheongsam or qi pao. I even bought the leather. I'm not about to try it myself and ruin the material (I can only just barely hem a pair of pants, and that's only if you don't mind a visible hem). Can anyone recommend a dressmaker in the area who might be able to take a traditional qi pao pattern and my material and make me a completely unique dress?

    First off, that sounds sexy as HELL. And maybe a Chinese flower pattern of rivets or zippers? Yeow.

    Since leatherwork is so different from fabric-work, I suggest you might consult a leather shop about this one. I bet you can get a pattern for a cheongsam at a fabric store. Figure out what fits you, then take it to a leather shop for the actual assembly of the garment. I think quite a few of them in our area carry work from local crafters, and can probably connect you with one of them. The folks at The Crypt in Capitol Hill were really nice.

    I've done a fair number of weddings and have had occasion in the past to employ and/or recommend Professional Costumers as custom tailors - they are by far the most versatile and creative IMO.
    Also: Many have their leather-stitchin' chops already. Try contacting TPS aka theatre puget sound for some links/recommendations. I think TPS has an online talent bank as well.
