Who's a good tattooist who is local and also a lady?

Howdy.

I do not want to go to anyone who is not a female for my tattooing needs.

I hate photorealistic and classic style and basically anything with color. Can you think of a reasonably local woman who might help me with some black work? Is she awesome? Where is she working out of? Willing to travel as far as PDX fwiw.

Please! Help me!

Madame Lazonga's, which is on Western Avenue, just behind the Pike Place Market. www.vyvyn.com/

Check out the reviews on Yelp and Citysearch, to get some more comprehensive reasons on why I'm suggesting this shop...

Check out Suzy Todd and Ruby Santiago at Two Birds Tattoo on Greenwood. They're both definitely ladies, and top-notch artists as well. You can find them on Facebook, or just google "Two Birds Tattoo"

I've met Christy Brooker at the expo - she's good with fantasy elements, especially.

I went to Seesee at Deep Roots: http://deeprootstattoo.com/tattoos-seattle/tattoos-seattle-seesee/ and LOVE the work she did. I gave her some samples and ideas, and she did the art. Mine was color, but her B&W stuff is really good too. I needed a lady artist as well.

I think Nina at Laughing Buddha is really great! She has done 2 for me and they are both mostly black and white with a tiny bit of color. She is easy to talk too and really listens to what you want. Her work on the Laughing Buddha site is colorful, but don't let that fool you. I plan on her doing more work for me in the future. Good Luck

Jacqueline Beach did amazing work on mine... they were very detailed black line works that I ended up having color put in, but they looked incredible just as black work.

Roni at Hidden Hand in Fremont. She did my chest piece and some script on my ribs, both black and grey. She's really good at shading and script (and really solid all around). I get called out on my tattoo at least once a day, and everyone I've recommended her to has been really happy. She is really great to work with and is super respectful and really dedicated. I waited a long time before I decided to start getting work done and I'm really glad I did because when I was younger I wouldn't have necessarily insisted that I only work with female tattoo artists. I'm really happy with the decision and am always looking out for good talent, but I will always come home to Roni and Hidden Hand when I have money to go.

That being said I am also going to PDX in April to get work done with Alice Kendall at Infinity Tattoo. I saw her work at the expo 2 years ago and decided I wanted to work with her. She's booked out 9 months in advance, though! Since I still don't know what she is like to work with I can't answer to that, but her work is beautiful.

PS: I will be in the Stranger office today and tomorrow if you want to talk about it!

It is, of course, none of my beezwax and you are entitled to go to anyone for your tat for any reason at all. But I gotta ask why the strict "no dudes" policy? You're pretty much limiting yourself to less than 10% of available tattooists.

There are, of course, plenty of talented female tattooists who can work on you and I'm sure you'll be happy with the results. But selecting a tattooist based on any criteria other than talent and cleanliness with some allowance for certain particularly appalling social or political view points (Dave Lum, for instances, pisses a lot of folks off) seems... unwise.
