I have no first-hand knowledge but in the course of doing similar research I came upon the following list of Netflix alternatives in an angry comment on the Netflix blog after they jacked up rates last week: Dvdsbymail.com Fastpasstv.com Sidereel.com Isohunt.com Blockbuster subscription Redbox Graboid.com Xfinity streaming Crackle.com Some of these are obviously subscription services but others appear to give you the option to download content. I think with Amazon Rentals and Hulu Plus for TV series I'll be able to cut the cord with the expensive satellite. Now I'm wondering whether you can add other streaming websites besides the ones that come pre-loaded on the Roku? I had hoped to be able to tell you. But... the frickin thing arrived and doesn't work! I think it's a broken remote but there are no buttons on the device itself so I'm stuck. Very annoying. I guess I'll have to return it and get another one. They essentially have apps that you can "install" and use to stream content. Here's the list, but it is updated with new services as they add them. Sports is somewhat limited. http://www.roku.com/roku-channel-store#3 I expect to watch sports using a standard HD Antenna which is free and will get me the basic stations. No ESPN, but I don't watch much. The only thing I won't get is Monday Night Football. Didn't see any NBA at all. To the best of my very limited knowledge you can't just surf the web.
