    There's hot chocolate and then there is drinking chocolate (don't know if that's what it's called, but it's almost a cup of melted chocolate). Here's my choices:

    Hot Chocolate: The Top Pot on Summit is really good.

    Drinking Chocolate: Oh Chocolate in Madison Valley (across from Nishino).

    Well, being a Theonista I'm sure most of you know what my answer is! However, which flavor, you might ask? During the winter I can't live without Theo Chocolate's Chipotle Sipping Chocolate...the warmth of Ancho & Chipotle Chiles mixed with Ceylon cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice & cloves. One must whisk the pulverized dark chocolate & spices into steaming warm milk or if you are feeling a little hedonistic half & half or heavy cream.
    Theo also has a classic Dark or Peppermint Sipping Chocolate. This is truly a sipping chocolate that should only be ingested in 3-4oz increments as it is incredibly rich (made from 70% Dark Chocolate).

    Slightly off-point, I hereby offer the best alcoholic hot chocolate drink mix I know:

    * mostly hot chocolate
    * a moderate pour of pepper infused vodka
    * a splash of amaretto
    * whipped cream
    * dash of cayenne pepper on top

    Well there, Dick,

    It just so happens I wrote a piece for The Stranger on this very topic a year ago (link below). I'm still torn as to which is my favorite, but I think for a straight-up hot chocolate, I'll take Fran's, because I'm a slut for unsweetened whipped cream.

    I do go to Trophy Cupcakes in W-ford often, since I live nearby, and they do housemade marshmallows. For Mexican HC, it's El Diablo Coffee in QA, hand's down. Happy slurping!

    I recommend the Mexican hot chocolate at Ranch Bravo. Not fancy, but delicious.

    I MUST third Chocolati. They have locations in Green Lake, Greenwood, Wallingford, and Downtown.
    They're chocolate is potent, full-bodied, and comes in a variety of flavors.

    Avoid their chocolates, I've seen what they make them out of (generic chocolate chips in giant bags) and it's crap.

    Drink their hot chocolate though. That kind of good behavior deserves to be rewarded.

    I'll second the nominations for Chocolati for hot chocolate (they do different flavors - I like the dark raspberry flavor - and they have a location in Wallingford as well as Greenlake), and Cafe Presse for drinking chocolate. Yum.

    I like Chocolati's hot chocolate a lot. It's thick, but not too sweet, and they have a walk-up location near Green Lake--perfect for walks on a cold day.

    611 Supreme on Pine. I can say this because when I took my gf and her crabby 14-year-old there Saturday she ordered it. When I asked her how it was, she seemed genuinely upset she couldn't get angsty. All she said was "It's perfect" -- but she did sound glum about it.

    The Confectional in Pike Place Market (well, technically across the street from the Market) has an amazing drinking chocolate, complete with chili, cinnamon and whipped cream, if desired. They also have BOMB mini cheesecakes.

    I like The Chocolate Box (downtown) for hot chocolate and Senor Moose (Ballard...I work there) for Mexican hot chocolate. The Moose will also make it spicy for you, if you're that kind of Dick.

    I'm not a fan of sipping chocolate, which is strange because I like my regular hot chocolate as potent as possible. It's just a little too much. So my recommendation for regular hot chocolate is Trophy. They have sipping chocolate too, but their regular stuff is the food of the gods.
