What are your predictions for 2011?

What will be the big issues/trends/personalities/disasters/whatever in 2011?

What's going to happen in with the economy, Seattle budget, jobs, the changing political landscape in DC, the wars, misc. disasters, bookstores, fashion, tech, food, you name it.

Bonus points:

What actually changed in 2010 that wasn't predictable and/or had a huge impact overall or in a given domain?

I think there are going to be some states that are going to go into default in 2011 (maybe California, maybe New Jersey, a few others). They won't be able to make payroll, etc. Sad and tragic, but people wanted all kinds of services and didn't want to pay for them. And legislatures were too anti-tax-minded to even contemplate raising taxes. Know what, people? Schools cost money. Teachers cost money. Roads cost money. Bridges cost money. Garbage pick-up costs money. Sewage treatment costs money. Shall I go on?

I want so badly to be hopeful, and just when I start to let some sunshine in, this country goes and elects a Republican majority in the House or elects a Bible-thumping, global-warming's-a-myth, anti-gay teabagger over Senator Russ Feingold - one of the smartest guys on the Hill. And I descend back into the pit of despair (temporarily).

I'm tired of empty-headed blonds. I would like to start seeing people of substance on TV, and discourses that lift, inform, and enlighten. I couldn't care less about Kim Kardashian's well-jabbed ass. Please tell me that I'm not alone in that regard.

PT Barnum believed that people will eat whatever shit you dish out to them. This year, my hope is that people will start turning off their TVs when the shit comes on and read a book or newspaper instead.
