It's actually Scots, which is either a dialect of English or a distinct language depending on whom you ask. It has Scottish Gaelic elements but it is distinct from it. I probably could have done that in the first place but I thought it might be a question others might be contemplating also. So, actually in answering the Rev's question it states that: "The song begins by posing a rhetorical question as to whether it is right that old times be forgotten, and is generally interpreted as a call to remember long-standing friendships." I interpret this to mean that it is a song that says it is worthy to remember, healthy to forgive, and time to move on. The Gaelic reference mentioned by Fnarf is well taken, thanks for the clarification. The 'shroom goes to Little Red Ryan Hood out of being the quick contributor in time for the actual singing of the song, here's hoping he actually had a more exciting midnight celebration than I did.
