Can you recommend an inexpensive vet that will prescribe meds without a visit?

Our cat has worms, and our regular vet (too expensive and too far) won't prescribe deworming meds without a visit and stool culture. We'd like to avoid the costs of all the tests, as we know what the problem is and have video of the worms in her poop. Gross. Does anyone know of a vet office that will just prescribe the meds without all the tests? Last time we had this problem with our cat (who is ridiculously healthy) it cost us +$300 to find out she had worms, which we already knew.

I would highly doubt you will find any veterinarian that does not know you or your cat (as the patient) that will prescribe medications sight unseen to confirm your diagnosis or appropriateness of treatment.

You might find an applicable product online such as through 1-800-PETMEDS.

I am sure you can find other sources of veterinary medicines available online.
You do so at your own risk and the risk of your cat's health and life also.
I have to say that so you go forward realizing the possible consequences of your actions.

    I hope this helps.

Russ is 100% right on this one.

Based on the comment thread after it, I can tell you that in the past, my vet has prescribed worming meds for our cat based on an over-the-phone description of the worms alone. However, they'd examined the cat at some point in the previous year, so that might play into it.

If you want to try it and give them a call, it's Cats Exclusive on Aurora (http://www.catsexclusive.com/). 206-546-2287. They're really helpful and understanding.

Sounds like drastic over-servicing by your vet.

I got some topical worm treatment over the counter from my vet the other day, it is called "Profender allwormer", and is produced by Bayer. No need to take the cat in and if they had tried on what your vet has, boy would I have been cross.

But I live in Australia, so maybe the specter of litigation has not hit vets to the same degree.
