Where can I find egg nog in Seattle now?

I really like egg nog. This year, right after Christmas, I bought several cartons at a discount at the Safeway near home, knowing that it would no longer be available soon.

So now I have a problem. I have a giant bottle of booze, and almost no egg nog left. Anyone know where it can still be found?

It is pretty easy to make your own. Here is an Alton Brown recipe.

Finding cartons of the ready to drink eggnog will be probably be impossible now. It is a product that takes its place in the precious limited refrigerated shelf space of your grocery store only for about two months each year at most.

The next obvious answer is to make your own. With a real plethora of recipes out there in cyberspace it is easy to take your pick.

They vary from complicated to easy, but almost all involve (as they should) raw eggs, which brings to mind all sorts of red flag dangers about salmonella and other disease possibilities that have been in the news this year. The safest eggs to eat in a raw form are those that have been pasteurized in the shell (a process developed in WA State by the way)

It is possible to find them locally as this website lists. The most obvious retailer being Uwajimaya.

Lastly you can buy a more stable product you can store in your pantry with no need for refrigeration until you open it, canned eggnog. Borden makes it and you could probably order it through your local larger grocery store (although you would probably have to buy a dozen can carton) and it can be ordered direct from a source that you can link to from their website.

Amazon has it on their website, but it says that it is not currently available. However, it is a product that Borden makes year round and should be obtainable. I remember buying a couple of cans at an overstock store a few years ago and thinking it was actually rather good tasting.

You can make your own with a minimum of effort.

Try mixing one fresh egg, one cup cold milk, two tablespoons of sugar, a quarter teaspoon of vanila, dash of nutmeg and a pinch of salt. serve over crushed/cracked ice.

We used to make it and drink it with our buttered popcorn every sunday night while watching Disney on TV in the 1960s...

You could check out "Advocaat" and see if it meets your needs. It's a Dutch brandy-based eggnog liqueur, already mixed and ready to go. Drink it out of a paper bag on the street!

The WSLCB carries at least one brand, Bols, although they spell it on their website "Advockaat", which is stupid. They have it at the 4th Ave S, East Union, Queen Anne, and West Seattle stores, according to their website.

Numerous other brands are available online. I've only had the Bols, which I found repulsive, but then I'm not an eggnoggy person.
