What charity organization will come to your home and pick up large furniture donations, like a sofa?

The Salvation Army does pickups; it's totally saved my ass numerous times when moving out of apartments where nobody wanted to take the couch/etc.

The Sharehouse (www.thesharehouse.org) picked up my couches. If the sofa is in good condition and under 7 feet long, you're good to go.

When we had a bunch of really old furniture, we talked to charities and learned that they wouldn't take used mattresses, sofas with fold-out beds, or upholstery with those cushion button things sewn on--the latter two because of danger to kids. We ended up having St. Vincent de Paul pick up some of the non-upholstered furniture and got rid of the upholstered stuff in other ways. Also useful is the free section on Craigslist; we even found someone there who wanted our broken printer.

It sounds like NGC1275 has had better luck than we did going the charity route, so you could call around to see if policies vary.
